OK, That’ll Be Awesome If It Happens: 1200 Bank

Rooftop lounging? Yes, please.
1200 Bank, a new development project from developer Paul Giegerich and architect David Schultz at DAS Architects slated to go in at the old Beneficial Bank at 12th and Chestnut, goes into its final zoning hearing next Wednesday. And if it does well there, it could well extend the whole Midtown Village push — we all laughed when the twinkle in Tony Goldman’s eye first showed, but hey: so far, so good — eastward, into a Center City/Chestnut Street landscape that could really, really use a little love. If all goes the developers’ way, 1200 Bank will host an upscale billiards club, a Soho House-esque rooftop lounge (no swimming pool planned but hey, a blog can dream), a big banquet space and a food concept in there somewhere that may or may not be of the Starr/Garces ilk — all housed within a beaut of a building designed by O.G. Gilded Age architectural pimp Horace Trumbuaer, whom you may remember from these fine locations. More very, very interesting renderings at the 1200 Bank website linked above.
