10 Shows To See At The Philly F/M Festival

The Philadelphia Film and Music Festival: Is that anything? We don’t know yet, but it’s coming up this weekend, and that means a gargantuan schedule that you have to wade through to find the diamonds in the rough. Never fear, we’ve done (some of) the heavy lifting for you! Here are 10 recommends:

>>>Kick off the weekend with a night of experimental/psychedelic/hard rock, featuring Sonic Youth predecessors Notekillers, along with Kohoutek, American Speedway, and Dark Sea Dream at the Prophase Music showcase. 9/23 @ M Room

>>> The Deli pretty much sucks, but we’ll let Phrequency and The Key fight that battle; at least their bill is pretty good: Check out indie rockers Univox, the Homophones, TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb, and Hair Rocket at The Deli Official Opening Party. 9/23 @ Kung Fu Necktie

>>>Philly punk legends The Dead Milkmen will be playing with Philly drinking legends Black Landlord and Felix Lighter of Lancaster, PA. This might be one of the easier choices you have to make this weekend. 9/24 @ World Café Live (downstairs)

>>>For something a little more obscure, check out Goodnight Lights, New Madrid Faults, Secret Mountains, and When I Was 12 at the Dirty Hands showcase. 9/24 @ El Bar

>>>On Saturday, be sure to swing by the first ever Girard Fest 2010, where you can run around Girard Avenue from Front to 2nd to 4th Streets, each of which will have its own outdoor stage. This is one of the PFM’s signature events, so check out the band list and schedule for each stage here. 9/25 on Girard Avenue, 12pm-7pm

>>>Cool down that night with New York’s Asobi Seksu and Philly-based bands The Swimmers and Like a Fox. 9/25 @ Johnny Brenda’s, 9pm

>>> XPN’s new-ish music blog, The Key (better than The Deli even after two weeks in existence), put together a pretty sweet lineup for their launch party/Philly music showcase, featuring Adam and Dave’s Bloodline, Busses, The New Motels, and The Sky Drops. 9/25 @ The Blockley Pourhouse

>>>On Sunday, InLiquid is hosting an all-day outdoor show at Crane Arts featuring a lineup of folk and jazz and everything in between, including Slo Mo and Mic Wrecka, Hezekiah Jones, and The Hoppin’ John Orchestra. 9/26 @ Crane Arts, 12pm-7pm

>>>For a grungy end to your weekend, head to El Bar for Alabaster Tongue‘s garage showcase, featuring El Fuego, The Midnight Beat, and Thee Nosebleeds. 9/26 @ El Bar, 10pm

>>>Alternatively, you can check out On Tyme Music Marketing‘s hip-hop showcase, featuring Chase Allen, Gods’Illa, A-Class, and Dirt Platoon, and its festival-closing afterparty, with Tom Delay DJing through the night. 9/26 @ Club Risque (upstairs)

We’ll have more Philly F/M Festival as the week goes on, but be sure to check out their site and decide for yourself.
