Hi,

Kohl’s is having a contest where the 20 schools that receive the most votes on Facebook win $500,000 each. The contest ends on September 3rd. Right now, 18 of the top 20 schools are private schools. Some of the schools are bribing for votes by giving away iPads.

Currently there is not a single Philadelphia school in the top 100. I am pretty sure that my school has the most votes of any Philadelphia school right now. I am a 3rd grade teacher at S. Weir Mitchell, which is located at 55th and Kingsessing. 94% of our students are economically disadvantaged. Our building is almost 100 years old. We don’t have a music teacher. The cops were dispatched to the neighborhood at least 3 times TODAY for separate assaults with guns. My school NEEDS this money. Despite all of these obstacles, we have made Adequate Yearly Progress 7 out of 8 years.
