This just in: Dude who quit Dr. Dog might actually be better than Dr. Dog! Well, A) it’s not a horse race; B) but it’s probably true anyway; C) but only if you’ve been wishing for a while now that Dr. Dog would throw off the shackles of Beatle/Band-amania and get into some deeper 1970s vibrations such as Pussycats-era Nilsson, Todd Rundgren and other shaggy weirdos like Thunderclap Newman, Emmit Rhodes and Jerry Rafferty. (Didn’t I just blow your mind with my heavy knowledge of moondog roach clip music as approved by MOJO magazine? I’m full of surprises, baby.) Anyway, that shed out in the back where all those other cats used to hang was mysteriously left on the lawn of ex-Dr. Dog drummer Juston Stens overnight, and goddamn if the kid isn’t making the most of it. His first EP with his new band is out in August on Park The Van, and we must say, it’s all killer, no filler. Stens debuts his new act — full name: Juston Stens & The Get Real Gang — in Philly on Friday night at 11PM at The Khyber. Hopefully, they’ll be running a special on Brandy Alexanders.
