Philadelphia Folk Fest Releases 2010 Lineup And… It’s Good!
It’s been pretty cool to watch the Philadelphia Folk Festival make overtures to new audiences over the last few years with bookings like Espers and The Decemberists and so on. But this year might could be an even bigger breakout year for the Fest, now in its 49th year. This morning, PFF released their lineup for this year, to be held August 20-22, and it’s a strong one. Among the highlights:
- the summer’s only additional East Coast performance from Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy beyond Wilco’s own Solid Sound Festival at MASS MoCA
- Bonnie “Prince” Billy, who’s sure to bring the weird
- Philebrity staff fave/early Fairport Convention member/Laurel Canyon pop-folk hero Iain Matthews
- Richard Thompson (Fairport reunion???)
- And other solid bookings like A.A. Bondy, Gandalph Murphy & The Slambovian Circus of Dreams, Taj Mahal, Erin McKeown and more
Tickets are on sale with an early-bird discount here now.

Pro: Really cool, eclectic lineup
Con: It’s just too fucking hot to go to an outdoor festival with minimal shade in the Philly area in August.

Tweedy, Bonnie Prince Billy and AA Bondy? Nice!

@amc4232 The Yards beer tent has shade and cold beer. Plus you can hear the music. What more do you need?

Any guess at deciphering the ticket prices?

As a folk and folk-adjacent fan you’d think I could muster some excitement for PFF, but it never happens. Here’s my list of people I’d be excited to see: Spinning Leaves.
Oh, wait, they live here – I don’t have to sleep in a tent on a dirt farm to catch their set.
