Queen Village Neighbors Association Requests Earlier Curfew For Youths And Night Court
If you think the rest of the city has been worked into a lather about This Whole Flash Mob Thing, imagine how the people who actually live on or near South Street must feel. So it’s not surprising that the Queen Village Neighbors Association has a few suggestions for the City on how to handle the new flash reality we are all apparently living through. This morning, QVNA let its members know just what it wants from the city:
• Change the curfew from midnight to 9:00 pm and enforce it.
• Install the Night Court system again at 11tth & Wharton
Will they get it? Hard to say. On one hand, both of these requests require resources and some sort of attendant political battle. On the other hand, the City of Philadelphia would do well to do a better job of acknowledging South Street as a valuable resource. So far, we’ve heard a lot of bluster about how South Street is the primary front in the new cops-versus-kids battle, but not a lot about how the City can or wants to help South Street bounce back a little — and not just from the flash mobs. So this could go some way towards that, even if the measures suggested by QVNA may or may not be anything approaching an actual answer to the problem.
