Allow me to provide a bit of context to all the naive hipsters out there that live in Kensington. This map was made by Katie after I was pistol whipped in the face a block from our house. If you’ve ever been assaulted then you know how for the first couple weeks afterward you view your neighborhood and the world with a different lens for a while.

I think you’ve misinterpreted the meaning of this map. It’s to let you know where you will get the shit kicked out of you on your way home from your favorite pho place.

I think this is what the developers are calling “Olde Kensington.” West Kensington is west of Kensington Avenue to 4th, North of York. The alphabet Streets, MacPherson Square, The Somerset and K&E El stops, 3rd & Indiana, the Badlands and the “Dangerzone” should definitely be on the map.

And instead of “new school that will gentrify all of W. Kensington,” perhaps it should say what this truly has the chance to become…

A new building for an old neighborhood high school for teens from all throughout Kensington – nowhere else, which may lead the way in revitalizing sections of a neighborhood that seem to be quite scary to you already, while at the same time providing students in a performing arts high school the updated facilities and specialized learning environments they haven’t seen since 1918, when their current school opened.

I agree with Leo. This person has a superficial understanding of the area. That “whole not of nothing” west of Front Street is represented nicely in the Norris Square map. Nice try, Katie I. Spend some more time in EAST Kensington, Fishtown, or Kensington South, and give this another go….

Clearly, Katie I, hasn’t actually visited most of this neighborhood. For example:
some of the best sandwiches in Philly can be had at el cafeito (http://elcafeito.com/) 3rd and cecil b.

There is a great flat tire place at front and amber (I got 4 tires changed there yesterday in 30 minutes for $25).

There is a library at front and dauphin.

Also, for some reason the map doesn’t continue on to Kensington Ave, where there are: two pho places, a live chicken place and a $5 haircut place on one block (kensington between e sergeant and e hazzard).

W Kenzo has a lot to offer besides crack and prostitution.
