Pennsyltucky, WHO ARE YOU? Gay Marriage Ban In PA Voted Down
The Pennsylvania Senate Judiciary Committee harumphed its way through a vote on legalizing a same-sex marriage ban in PA on Tuesday morning, and, hey, good news: It was an 8-6 vote, voting down the ban. And some of the state senators that voted against same-sex marriage were actually Republicans. PA Republicans, even! To us, this suggests that, like lots of other civil rights and no-brainer legislation, if it same-sex marriage comes up enough times, it’ll go through. And don’t forget, PA has yet to see a massive public outcry in support of gay marriage — something that’s bound to happen sooner or later.

Thanks for the love of the gays you all have on this blog! However, I beg to argue that there IS a big public outcry for gay marriage in PA. Just look Facebook… 6,000+ members strong and growing everyday!!

As someone from good old Pennsyltucky, who’s lived in the Philly for nearly 7 years, here’s the most major thing your prejudice about the entire middle of the state causes you to miss…out there, everyone has to live together. There are no gayborhoods, no black areas, no white areas, when you live in a small town, you all have to deal with each other. There are 1 maybe 2 grocery stores, a couple of bars, and everyone gets their coffee at the same gas station in the morning. For the most part it leads to acceptance and understanding, there will always be hold outs as there are anywhere, but give them time and even crusty old geezers can come to terms with it. I’ve encountered for more pronounced racist and/or homophobic attitudes here than in my home town. It also probably doesn’t hurt that there are plenty of wooded areas around for people to grow their own kickass weed. Keeps everyone mellow. So, in closing, don’t sleep on Pennsyltucky.
