Lisa DePaulo: No Stranger To Politicians With Wangs
Those of you who had a bell rung earlier this week when Lisa DePaulo’s GQ interview with Rielle Hunter made headlines nationwide know your Philly media history well. DePaulo was nominated twice for a National Magazine award when she was at Philadelphia Magazine in the early 1990s — which many would argue was the struggling mag’s last great age. The most famous — and infamous — DePaulo piece, of course, was “How Many Ed Rendells Are There?,” a profile on Fast Eddie when he was still the mayor of this burg. When the piece was published, DePaulo found herself (not for the first time) quickly jumped to the other side of the microphone, after a kerfuffle (oh how we had kerfuffles in the go-go ’90s!) arose over Rendell’s ceaseless come-ons and sexy remarks to DePaulo while she was reporting on him. (The piece so rattled Philly’s sex-starved media community that rumors persisted for years that Rendell was ultimately successful, but that’s the Philly media wish-fulfillment fantasy life for ya.) In any case, The Pol Who Can’t Keep It In His Pants has indeed turned out to be a motif for DePaulo, making this week’s Rielle Hunter get for the lady a score, any way you look at it.
