Congrats to Jon K., who just coined “People on bikes that ride on sidewalks” as our new favorite euphemism for… Mexicans! Hiyo! Thanks, we’ll be here all week. No, really. Also: Nice hand lettering!

Anybody else want to join in the fun? Send us your hand-drawn neighborhood maps to tips[at]philebrity[dot]com and we will totally run them. And check out more neighborhood maps here on Philebrity.

this is excellent. pretty much how i’ve always thought of our neighborhood. only thing i can tell that is missing are all the misaligned side streets (i.e., Hancock St, American St, Kenilworth, etc) that are often only existing for a block before they dead-end, and completely disorient the south-street weekend douche crowd who circles the neighborhood (generally unsuccessfully) looking for 2 hours of free parking…only to get a 36 dollar ticket roughly 2 hours and 15 minutes later from the PPA that will never be paid.

a PERFECT representation of our neighborhood – and best of all, I know exactly what each of those business (the good and bad) are… well done!

  3. boggle Says:

there are people on bikes that ride on sidewalks, people who ride 2 or more to a bike, and people on bikes who only ride the wrong way down one way streets. The Mexicans are not the ones on the sidewalks.

By far the best of the maps so far, but, to get all technical, the “poor people” live in Queen Village: the boundaries are sixth through front, South to WASHINGTON. And, to quibble further, I’d say quite a few rich people live in QV as well… But great map!

Was logging on to say just that… the guy across the street from me on Christian is trying to unload his house for $600K, and I’m sure he and his elbow patches would take umbrage at being referred to as one of the ‘poor people’.
Otherwise, pretty right on! Although I’d love to see an icon for precocious children named Declan. Cause man, I swear my block is swimming in them.

Hardly perfect. Passyunk is waaaayyy off.

  7. Perfectly Disgraceful Says:

Brickbat Books isn’t one of the stores you go to?

  8. ltrak Says:

What bar is on second north of queen?

  9. barryg Says:

As much as I absolutely love to stereotype Mexcicans for riding on sidewalks (IT IS TRUE), on South St, the cops ride on the sidewalks, too.

Also, black people ride the wrong way down one way streets.

    And he spelled Monroe wrong.

  10. mordesquitos Says:

Everyone bikes the wrong way down Passyunk.

@ltrak I’m betting they meant For Pete’s Sake and were just off by a block.

I was talking about Lyon’s Den but I put it on the wrong side of Queen. I fucked up a bunch of other things, too. I was doing it from memory at work. sorry.
