Only Facebook Could Abolish The PA Liquor Control Board
In a very short time, “Abolish the PLCB — Rewrite the Code!,” a new Facebook group with many axes to grind against the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, has gathered over a thousand members. And it’ll gain more. People hate the PLCB, and they have every reason to — it’s archaic, inept, and not for nothing, kind of a racket. Spurred on no doubt by the recent (and quite fishy) “busts” of a trio of bars serving craft beer, anti-PLCB sentiment is running even higher than usual. To their credit, though, this Facebook group steers away from wingnuttery by stating the simple and obvious: “The state Liquor Code should be rewritten — simplified, rationalized, updated — the retail and wholesale booze business modernized, and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board — and its state monopoly on sale of wine and spirits — abolished, with the useful functions divided among appropriate state offices.” Could it be the seed of some kind of real liquor-law reform be in here? We have no idea. But it would be nice.
