Someone Famous Went Somewhere Once: Bette Midler At The Flower Show

Philadelphia Flower Show Designer Sam Lemheney (tan jacket) and PHS President Elect Drew Becher lead Midler on a tour of the 2010 Philadelphia International Flower Show,
“Passport to the World,” on March 3.

Oh, look, there’s Bette Midler at the Flower Show. We wonder: Do people under 25 even know who Bette Midler is? Here’s a history lesson, kids: Bette Midler got famous singing at gay bath houses in the 1970s, and basically created the whole archetype of the brassy, size-accepting strumpet-as-entertainer. No, wait, that was Mae West. Oh, also, she was in Beaches, which was possibly the sappiest movie ever made, but also, when she was young and hung out with the gays, she was in The Rose, which is an absolute motherfucker of a movie. She hasn’t done anything interesting in a long time, but you know that song “The Wind Beneath My Wings?” Well, guess who!

Do you know of Someone Famous Who Went Somewhere Once in Philadelphia? We don’t care, but we’ll humor you. Send your tips and pics to tips[at]philebrity[dot]com.

Her guest appearance on Seinfeld was pretty good too.

You obviously haven’t done any research on Ms. Midler. It’s much easier just to be bitchy I guess.

I so agree with misterd. If you had done any research you would know what kind of person Ms. Midler is and have a clue about some of the fantastic work she has done. I am not only refering to her great talent as an “Entertainer” but the work she does for NY, the environment, children and so many other charities.

people under 25 know who bette midler is. not stupid people. but people who are aware of things pre-1984.

This article and the whole “Someone famous who went somewhere once” concept is extremely disrespectful and kinda weird. Who ever writes these articles must have no life. O and by the way, Bette Midler for not doing anything as you said is probably more famous and has more money than you can ever hope to have. Especially with the attitude you have in this article.

The person who wrote this dribble really needs to go back and complete their education. Yes, Bette Midler got her break in the bath houses but had been on Broadway a time before. Also, nothing interesting lately? Let us take a long walk back, wait not a long walk you dim wit… just a glitch in entertainment events. First Wives Club, if you don’t know that was a major hit. Hocus Pocus, a family favorite. Then She Found Me. Oh and have you heard any thing of Vegas in the past few years? Well, let me remind you of her hit long running show that has broken box office records. Please, before you write another sentence that will find its way somewhere where others will read… do your research. On one last note, I was told once that people who are harsh tounge and ridicule others with no cause have pretty much failed in the same profession as those they insult. Get over yourself please and pick up a book or newspaper.
