This Weekend: Let’s Pretend You’re Leaving Your House
Sunday night. It’s time.
FRIDAY:
>>> Dear God, that forecast. Let me now predict your weekend for you: Maybe you’ll go out and do something tonight. Maybe. But then, that’s it. You have a Wii, right? Or some kind of Netflix thing? And a liquor store close by? Yeah, I thought so. Hit me up on iChat! But on the off chance that you are not seasonally depressed or just, like most folks, in a fuck-you-pay-me standoff with the climate (if not the whole of your life) there are these things:
>>> Philagrafika 2010 is finally upon us, and it’s a monster. From now through April, Philagrafika will be presenting a dizzying array of art events, which, to be honest, we’re still digesting it all. Check back in with us next week as we try to wrap our heads around this thing.
>>> Benefits! We know we ragged on the NORML Benefit at The Rotunda tonight, but whatever: Weed is IMPORTANT. At least these hacky sack dorks believe in something. Meanwhile, over on the north side, there’s Victory Brewing Presents Victory over Leukemia: A Benefit for the JMML Foundation with The Swimmers, Audible and East Hundred at Johnny Brenda’s. Solid bill, great cause, and there’ll probably be some weedsmokers there, too. Just saying.
>>> Elsewhere: As noted in today’s Nug below, The Chimeras play Khyber; and over at Silk City, check out Punk Slope, “a night of Punk/80s Underground/2 Tone” with DJs Jesse Jones, Mike Ski and the Pink Skull guys.
SATURDAY:
>>> Speaking of 2 Tone, Ruder Than You is at the North Star Bar. Say what you will about the notion of ska in 2010, one things for sure: These guys MEAN IT, maaan.
>>> Say, you know what will warm you up? BOOBIES. Glitter City Productions presents PRETTY THINGS PEEPSHOW at the Trocadero. Pretty Things is one of the country’s largest touring used-to-be-rockabilly-girls-but-now-high-end-strippers things, so, uh, they know what they’re doing.
SUNDAY:
>>> Been hankering for the latest in shitgaze/druggy/garagey sounds? Check out the Shdwply Records Showcase at Kung Fu Necktie, featuring a solid bill of psychedelic avengers and burnouts.
>>> Or if it is simply a friendly cocktail and some old records that you require, enjoy Sweet Jane Sunday! DJ Jem w/guest DJ Damien Taylor at Tattooed Mom.
>>> But again, let’s not kid ourselves. You’re watching The Grammys, rooting against Pink and for Hall & Oates, who could be receiving THEIR FIRST GRAMMY EVER! Suck it, Bon Jovi!
