Brain Trust: What Happened During The State Of The Union Last Night? You Tell Us!

Uhh, well, this is a little awkward and all, buuuut…. we didn’t watch the State of the Union last night. We were hosting some friends from out of town, and while we all talked about what might be happening while the speech was airing, we did not turn the TV set on. It would have seemed rude. So we now find ourselves in the rather funny position of literally having no idea what was said or what happened. They could have outlawed cuddling for all we know. BUT! Let’s turn our ignorance into your fun! In the comments, tell us what “happened” on the State of the Union last night. We promise not to read any other news reports about it, and in the meantime, you can enter your impressions into Philebrity’s historical record forever and we will treat whatever you say as true. So, America, what did you think?

  1. Matt B Says:

Barry told the Supreme Court to eat a back of dicks in re their campaign finance ruling. Alito grumbled something under his breath in response.

Also, Republicans did not applaud the tax cuts contained in the stimulus bill.

  2. julia Says:

he didn’t talk about Healthcare till 31 minutes in, its all about job creation, cutting taxes and yelling at congress for being, well, congress.

Also Joe Biden began applauding at one point and no one else followed, he looked a little embarrassed and probably should have pulled at his collar.

It was the finest Republican speech I’ve heard since Bill Clinton’s mid-term makeover in ’96. Business tax breaks, govt spending freezes, no cuts in military spending, clean coal, safe nukes, etc, etc.

  4. barryg Says:

Yep, tax cuts for (small) business, nuclear energy, offshore drilling, exports, free trade, it’s ok if you don’t believe in anthropogenic global warming (but we should get off oil anyway). Pretty impressive, I thought.

  5. Allan Smithee Says:

re: it’s ok if you don’t believe in anthropogenic global warming

Pres. Obama said that only so the Republicans wouldn’t seem like idiots.

For the record, when climate models are used, scientists find it difficult to reproduce the current warming trend without including the 40 percent increase in carbon dioxide that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution
