And Now, Just So We All Know That We Saw Them, A List Of Things On The Metro’s 10th Anniversary Cover

Today marks ten years of the Metro publishing in Philly, and to celebrate, they hired illustrator Jay Bevenour to do the above cover image. (There’s also a “Swedish Meatball Burger” special at P.Y.T. if you really feel like celebrating.) Just so we all know that we are seeing the same things, above, look for:

· Stephen Starr, complete with what appears to be manboobs, swordfighting Jose Garces.
· Allen Iverson talkin’ ’bout PRACTICE.
· TWU leader Willie Brown emerging from an el car like the turtle head of a turd.
· Bizarro Nutter with an ashtray.
· Larry Mendte creepily nosing over Alycia Lane while Vince Fumo has this look like, “WHAT? ME? WHAT?”
· And so on, including a sad man sitting atop Billy Penn, all of it happening on the flat area of John Street’s hair.

Nice one. Congrats, Metro. Ten years down, eighteen months to go until you’re Philly’s only daily newspaper.

I believe the sad man atop Billy Penn is Rick Mariano (sp) the City Councilman turned prisoner and prison reform advocate who spent some tense hours atop City Hall with a gun…

    But, he was blonde?

That’s not an El car, it’s a bus.

Harry the K in heaven. Who is next to him?

Who is that on City Hall?

very clever cover. For once the Metro was so chocked full of info I saved it as it took longer to read than the normal 7 minutes.

Whitey (Richie Ashburn, if you have to ask) next to Harry.

Mariano doesn’t look blonde to me..?
