Readers Write: Must You People Tie The Sad Death Of Teddy Pendergrass Into The Neverending Game Of Hipster Bingo?

Why dont you do an article about Teddy Pendergrass passing away instead of pieces about hipster musicians no one cares about? Just a thought.

Alex-
What a crazy dickhead passive-aggressive email you just penned here. If you were a regular reader of the site, you’d know that Philebrity has a deep, abiding respect for Philadelphia’s musical history, and posts about it just as much as, if not more frequently, than “hipster musicians no one cares about.” On the subject of Teddy Pendergrass alone, WHOM I LOVE, just consider this search string:

http://www.philebrity.com/index.php?s=teddy+pendergrass

But whatever. I can already tell that you’re one of these people who projects every one of his own perceived stylistic, sexual and cultural insecurities onto the notion that somewhere, there is some magical cabal of “hipsters” ruining everything for you. It is my only request that you write me back in, say, 10 years and let me know how all of that worked out for you.

Meanwhile, Philebrity is deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. Pendergrass, and we’re working up a memorial post right now.

As ever, I remain,
Joey Sweeney

I’m willing to bet that Alex Kwasny is probably a transplant.

I say this with no hate at all and I’m not trying to sound cool. I love the old guard TSoP musicians. My neighborhood is full of those who weren’t able to get the house on the main line (or springfield hah!). As much as I love these old dudes and seeing them on an almost daily basis, I really don’t dig the music that much. Maybe because I grew up around it… I don’t know.

Any chance Alex works for the Inky?

Any chance Alex is midly retarded.

That was supposed to be “mildly”, but sure.

Teddy and the rest of the TSOP (is that redundant?) music was the soundtrack of Philadelphia yout…the record store under the El with its outdoor PA system blaring whatever the clerks inside were spinning…the Listening Booth up at Kelly’s Korner right next to the pinball machines, always with latest & greatest playing loudly…it is part of the bloodstream…

Who is this Alex Kwasny talking about when he says “…hipster musicians nobody cares about?” I certainly hope he’s not referring to Jay Reatard or even Jack Rose who, like Teddy Pendergrass, recently suffered untimely deaths. I am hoping for his sake that he is not such an enormous douche bag as to assume that nobody cares about what he calls “hipster” musicians when they die tragically. My defense of Sweeney and his sentiments aside, this is just offensive… even to some one such as myself that wasn’t terribly affected by their passing. Perhaps, Alex, you could log in and post a comment clarifying that you were really just speaking in broad generalities about ALL “hipster” musician posts. If you were in fact talking about those recently deceased, then I think I speak for anyone who cared about them–either personally or about their music or both–GET A CLUE AND THEN GO FUCK YOURSELF.

    Just a thought.

golden fuckin turn of phrase, man!

very sad to hear of his and reatards passing……maybe they will collaborate without words at some higher place…..speaking of words, ‘passive/agressive’ intrigues me — it’s as if the term itself neutralizes the effectiveness of the offender…..unless, perhaps, the offender is imagined to be more threatening than he/she actually is……how about ‘mildy agressive’ or ‘deadly passive’?
