Philly Reppin’ In Golden Globe Noms, And Uh, The Jersey Shore Is, Too
This year’s Golden Globes nominees were announced this morning, and as you might have expected, Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, directed by native son Lee Daniels, was all over the noms. Precious got nods for Best Motion Picture, Best Actress Drama (Gabourey ‘Gabby’ Sidibe) and Best Supporting Actress (Mo’Nique), so take that, critics who’ve charged the movie with being “poverty porn.” (Actually, you’re right, but this is Philadelphia: We have so little Hollywood to hold onto. Please take mercy on us. We’ve spent the last decade trying to convince ourselves that M. Night is actually worth a damn. Isn’t that punishment enough?)
In other Hey-Someone-Used-To-Live-Here/Golden Globe news: Tina Fey got a nom for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for 30 Rock; Kevin Bacon got nom’d for Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for Taking Chance (we didn’t see it, either); and Mad Men’s January Jones is contending for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series (Drama) for playing some straight up damaged goods from Bryn Mawr (totally counts). And finally, unbelievably, (500) Days of Summer — which was literally one of the biggest pieces of shit we saw all this year — is up for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), and was co-written by Jersey Shore native Scott Neustadter. If we may beseech the foreign press: Please do not vote for this movie. You’d only be awarding merit to a guy who, if this script is anything to go by, has never spoken with an actual woman in his life. Please. No.

I’m pretty sure Lee Daniels filmed it in New York.
