Rumblings: The Tina Fey/Roots/PhillyMag/People’s Republic Of Comcast QuadrupleBurger®!

fey_cover>>> Hey, you all see the new “Yo, I’m From Philly” issue of PhillyMag yet? Yep, Tina Fey‘s on the cover, but, hey, THERE’S NO INTERVIEW WITH TINA FEY. And we’re pretty sure no one from PhillyMag even took any of the pictures of Fey in the issue. They did, however, talk to Tina’s dad, in the grand family tradition of old people talking to other old people in order to find out what the young people are up to. [PhillyMag]
>>> Speaking of Fey, how long before Comcast jokes creep into 30 Rock scripts? Our guess is about a month. [NYT]
>>> And finally, before we’re done with that issue of PhillyMag, note the first comment on the feature story, supposedly penned by Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson:

what more do the Roots have to do/achieve?

COMMENT:
i have to say i am rather disappointed in not being included in your issue. we are PROUD philadelphians and this is a fact known across the world. i shouldn’t have to resume/name drop our achievements of the last 18 years. whether you deemed our celebrity not legit enough, or you still see us as “rappers”—i feel as though this omission was a slap in the face from a periodical that bears the name of the place we still call home. -ahmir ?uestlove thompson drummer of the legendary overlooked Roots crew.

Hahaha. Either ?uesto didn’t see the bit about how the issue is devoted to expats who won’t talk to PhillyMag, or he’s left town for good and not told anyone.

tey should change the name of that magazine to:
Main Line Dining and Plastic Surgery Monthly

Not only didn’t they interview the cover girl, but the photos look like they were from a shoot featured in Bust magazine LAST year: http://media.photobucket.com/image/bust%20magazine%20tina%20fey/norrinrad/Comediennes/Fey-BUST.jpg

I guess Ahmir forgot about Richard Rys’s profile of him…

… not to mention the reviews we’ve run of Roots albums, previews of their shows…

And yes, as you so graciously point out, jojo, the article wasn’t about Philly residents.

  4. Walter Sobchak Says:

If you look at the photo credits, you’ll see they bought a lot of this photography (probably all) from stock houses.

let’s not forget the inclusion of kobe bryant, a real gem of a guy who was recently seen sporting a DODGERS HAT when the phillies were facing them in the NLCS.

Ahhh, ?uestlove. Philly’s favorite complainer, who hasn’t put out a decent album in a decade. (And what’s with BT wearing Yankees hats for the past 5 years or so?)

Regardless, who is that sensitive that they feel a need to post a complaint for being left out of a feature/section/issue such as this? Maybe someone at Philly Mag heard their new single and thought it was best to leave them out? I would’ve.

  7. amc4232 Says:

I’m sorry, but do people actually believe that ?uestlove posted that comment? You do realize you can list any name you want on these things, don’t you? Or is AquaBoogie your real name?

  8. AquaBoogie Says:

Wait, you can actually put other names rather than your actual name for website log-ins/user IDs? Crazy. Thanks for the information.

    Sincerely,

    AquaBoogie Jones.
