Amidst the raucous media frenzy, Lincoln University has repealed its policy that students from the class of 2006 on with a BMI (body mass index) over 30 will be required to take a physical fitness class. The faculty vote, which took place on Friday, voted to merely encourage obese students to take the course, eliminating the necessity of the course for graduation. Ivory V. Nelson, Lincoln’s president, said that legal considerations were not the reason for the cessation, “the jury is still out” on whether the requirement was legal.
