R.I.P.: Jack Rose, 1971-2009

All of us here at Philebrity were deeply saddened to learn that guitarist Jack Rose passed away today. An amazing talent and true original, Rose has been a cornerstone of Philadelphia’s forward-thinking folk music scene over the last few years, and his records and performances routinely blended the mystic pull of Eastern music with western folk idioms. He was one of the finest musicians this city had to offer and a friend to many. Our deepest condolences go out to Jack’s family, friends and fellow fans. You can hear more of Jack’s music here.

This is a real tragedy. RIP Jack.
My brother-in-law had played with Jack on tour about 7 years ago and again just two months ago when Jack slept at his house. While he was visiting us just after we moved here, my bro-in-law had arranged to meet Jack at his house. Jack introduced us to Yard’s and we listened to Tim Buckley’s Starsailor and David Crosby’s If I Only Knew My Name. I never spoke to him again, but always carry that memory.
