And Now, Today’s GOOD NEWS/Readers Cameraphone: Mr. Sunshiney’s Good Time RecycleBank Launch Party!
Mayor Nutter announced the launching of RecycleBank in North Philly this afternoon. It will be rolling out across the city throughout next year and will incentivize recycling by awarding participants with points that convert into cold hard cash savings at local and national businesses. The model being used in Philly differs slightly from the one in the ‘burbs because trucks can’t weigh individual bins to award each residence with the appropriate points, which means it’s based on the average recycling rates of everyone in your sanitation route. That means you have to peer pressure, bully or otherwise convince your neighbors to participate in order to increase your own points. You might remember that the 2005 pilot program was in Mount Airy and West Oak Lane, both of which saw an increase in recycling rates up to well over 90%. That’s right, Mayor Street did something good. It’s now in several states and the UK. I do not work for them, just excited to see a chance to get people interested in recycling.
I snapped a couple pics at the event. One of which is Jim Kenney, undoubtedly thinking up more skeeving ways he can fuck with cyclists.
So there you have it: The world is not totally made of shit. Have you got some good news? If so, send it to tips[at]philebrity[dot]com with “GOOD MOTHERFUCKING NEWS!” in the subject header — we’d love to hear about it.

Mr. Sunshiney reminds me of Montgomery Burns for some reason. Could Mr. Sunshiney be plotting a massive recycled material sun blocking device?

Not so, LB. Phils made no bones about wanting a better bat at 3B and Polanco’s .348 OBP vs. Feliz’ .294 makes a big difference at the #2 slot in the lineup, Victorino @ #7 advances/scores Ibanez/Werth/Howard; Feliz hit .167 in the postseason. Polanco’s 1 SO for 17.5 plate appearances is second best in the majors. Feliz grew into a great defensive player @3B, but 15 errors? Polanco’s two Golden Gloves are nuthin to sneeze at. The money’s about even, but they went with what they thought was a better investment over the next three years. Besides, Ibanez gave him the hard sell and we know how he worked out. Though, I will miss hearing “Feliz [Navidad]” over the PA when he got a hit- made me smile every time.

2b ain’t 3b. 2 guys in the majors had more total chances at 3b than Feliz in 09, and they had 17 and 20 errors. His fielding percentage was .966 and at 3b, only 6 thousandths of a percent from second in the NL (and the leader had only 311 total chances vs Feliz’s 437).
We’ll all be happy if Easygoin Polanco can match those numbers at 3b. He’ll have to step it up to beat them.

And moving Victorino down to the 7 spot, with much better stats and better speed than Polanco (nottomention being 5 years younger), is insane. Despite some odd sports reporting along those lines, I think that isn’t very likely. Its a better argument to move Rollins down and lead Victorino off.

Peaceful Polanco can also slide over to 2B, letting the Phils give The King of The White Girls an occasional day off and giving Dobbs some starts.
The more important question is what they do with the money saved by getting Polanco instead of Beltre or Figgins. If they spend that on the bullpen, then it’s worth it.

LB, if you think Polanco and Feliz are the same player, you don’t know much about baseball.
Career #s:
Polanco .303/.348/.414
Feliz .254/.293/.422

You should have come over to say hello. It would have nice to meet you. And see, I actually sign my own, real name to things I post. How novel?

Agreed, LB, Feliz may have excelled @3B, but again, it’s about the BATS- and hey, it’s a done deal. Also agreed, Vic belongs at the top of the lineup, but that possibly bumping him to #7 scenario came from the Phils. All speculative anyhoo, Cholly plays em based on their performance at the plate- we’ll see how Pablo does. Bienvenido de vuelta!
amc4232, to be fair, I think we were considering 09 stats.

bmurray: agreed. This is all Hot Stove stuff, o’course.
And amc####, we were also considering 09 age, facial hair and names translated into english. Don’t leave those out. But considering careerwise that Feliz hits a few more HRs and knocks in a few more runs, I don’t see that much of a diff

Oh, and Councilman Kenney: Cripes man! Don’t invite people to a personal meeting on a blog comments page. And you might want to go with just your initials or first initials and last name in future posts. Just sayin’ Its a mad world.
Policy PS: C’mon! You’re down with green roofing and climate change concerns – get onboard with the philly bike crowd. Lets end the automobile stranglehold on transportation and make this a greener, healthier city.
