Philebrity Official Endorsement: Amandah For 2010 Phillies Ball Girl
We know that a lot of you have been waiting to cast your ballots for the 2010 Phillies Ballgirls until you heard what we had to say on the matter. (After all, beyond the Philebrity Awards, it is easily the second most important election of our time.) And after some (not) careful (totally knee-jerk) consideration, we have to decided to vote for Amandah (pictured). And we urge you to do so as well (polls close on Monday the 7th). Why? Most importantly, she’s the only contestant who actually lives in Philadelphia, which is frankly absurd: While our suburban neighbors are very welcome to come and be objects of ridicule enjoy the games and we’re thankful for the way they remind us that Philadelphia is no longer a part of America boost they give to the local economy, the Phillies belong to the Philadelphians. Having a ball girl from West Chester or Warrington simply would not do. Secondly, Amandah is personable, is obviously a huge fan of the Phils and knows the game, but she also once had a job in the mall as a MASTER BEAR BUILDER, where she helped kids build bears with names like “Chase Mutley.” And finally, she is quite handily the most attractive of the bunch. This year, when you go to the polls, do the right thing. We know you will.

“the Phillies belong to the Philadelphians”
Seriously!?! This just might be one of the most retarded things I have ever read on this site. This sort of attitude may work with the local music sense (and in my opinion is one of the many reasons why it’s not very good), but you’re really talking out of your ass on this one.

@spaghetti_eddie: You know that they are called the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES, right?

I guess “The Phillies belong to David Montgomery, Giles Limited Partnership, Claire S. Betz, Tri-Play Associates and Double Play Inc.” doesn’t really roll off the tongue.

@ JL and expat…ok, that’s cool, let’s make a deal: you guys ignore all the super cute / fun / outgoing girls of the world whose parents spelled their names with extra and unnecessary consonants and I won’t.

@chuck63
Ehh, fine by me.
@tips
You gotta admit the statement was a little a harsh, even if it was intended solely as a dis to suburbanites. What does it say to folks such as myself who rep in openly Philly hostile locales?

@chuck63
And when will there be a vote on the batboys?
December 2nd, 2009 at 5:33 pm
@philliesphan…put one together! But a word of caution, they tend to be on the YOUNG side! Better you stick with the actual players.

That’s what they are called. But they represent more than just the city proper. Like most professional sports teams, the Phillies represent the Philadelphia region. I grew up in New Jersey a die hard Phillies fan, and lived closer to the city than most (about 15 minutes). Does this mean that the Phillies are not for me? I hear what you are trying to say (West Chester is a bit of a hike), but who else are they supposed to root for? If we were to follow your logic than the residents of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, etc. would not be allowed to root for the Red Sox. I mean the Red Sox for Bostonians, right?
The Phillies are not some new band you read about on Pitchfork and decided that, because they are now more popular you can take an “I liked them first” attitude.
Sports teams are fun because anyone can be a fan, no matter where you come from. The more the merrier, right?
