Is The Comcast Holiday Spectacular in 3-D Trying To Pick A Fight With The Wanamaker’s Light Show?
Probably not — and we’ll be comparing and contrasting the two in a post next week — but damn, it sure does feel like there’s some Deck The Halls-style arms-race bitchslapping going on here. Yesterday, Comcast invited community leaders and members of the hospitality biz to preview The Comcast Holiday Spectacular in 3-D. The show — “the first 3-D viewing experience to ever take place on an 83-foot wide, 4 mm, LED display” — will be projected hourly on The Comcast Experience video wall in the Comcast Center lobby, from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, every hour, on the hour, from 10AM-8PM. When you look at it, you will look like this:

Someone tell me that’s a statue of Kool Keith about an inch in from the right. When you look at it, you see things like this:

And then Shaquille O’Neal will appear and tell you how to text five dollars to the United Way. Weirdest misfit toy ever.

Comcast’s holiday show and the Wannamaker Holiday Light Show are two great ways for people to enjoy the holidays in Philadelphia. The Wannamaker show is a terrific holiday tradition. We think the two shows work well together as people of all agess can see one show and then walk to see the other, as well as many of the other great Philadelphia traditions, making the City a wonderful desitnation during the holidays. – John Demming, Comcast
