Everything You Needed To Know About The Thanksgiving Parade

Picture 5The 2009 Philadelphia Thanksgiving Parade, presented by 6abc and IKEA, is happening on Thursday morning from 8:30am-noon. The parade begins at 20th and JFK and circles back down the parkway, ending at Eakins’ Oval (in front of the Art Museum). Some balloons this year will be: Super Grover, Mr. Potato Head, and Garfield dressed as a pilgrim. One particularly delightful float, pictured at right, is presented by Hess Corporation and is simply dubbed, “Alien.”

The balloons are only a prelude to this year’s special guests which include Sam Champion from Good Morning America, Bobbie Eakes from All My Children, Mark Indelicato from Ugly Betty, Jason Derulo (whose song “Watcha Say” is currently #2 on the Billboard charts), Miss America 2008, American Idol finalist Kimberly Caldwell and Nuttin’ But Stringz from America’s Got Talent. Bonus: From 8:30-9:00AM, there will be a pre-show interview session with the aforementioned celebrity guests at 20th and JFK. (Editor’s note: We weren’t sure whether to put quotes around “bonus” or “celebrity” so in the end, we went with neither. You get it.)

If you can’t be there in the flesh, you can always tune in to 6abc and keep abreast of the action with Cecily Tynan and Dave Roberts, but you’ll miss out on the free hot cocoa in the Campbell’s tent at Eakins Oval.
