National Beat: NJ Elects Bobby Bacala, But Is That A GOP Mandate?

As you undoubtedly know by now, yesterday, the people of New Jersey resoundingly elected Bobby Bacala as their Governor. And what a difference a few years makes: Last time we checked in with Bobby, he was Junior Soprano’s errand boy. But since then, Bacala has become a man in full. But does this signify a larger GOP surge nationwide? We’re not so sure, at least in Bacala’s case; in fact, it might just be local politics at work. After all, Bacala knows everybody; is well-connected in local industry, including the fields of construction, gambling and meats; and from what we hear, he makes a mean gravy and will kill French Canadians at will if asked. Rather than attach Bacala’s victory — and it was an impressive one — to some larger anti-Obama or anti-Democratic Party sentiment, we think it’s a lot more simple: In this case, the people of New Jersey just wanted to go for what they know.
