Alright, Which One Of You Convinced Bob Brady That He Could Talk About The Internet And Be Taken Seriously?

bob bradyAs an addendum to our post the other day about The People’s Republic Of Comcast, hear ye and know this: Comcast has not given up its fight against what Reasonable People of The World call “net neutrality.” Far from it in fact. Still smarting from the wrist-slaps doled out by the FCC after it caught Comcast trying to throttle file-sharers, Comcast is now enlisting the help of any and all pols to refute the FCC’s growing embrace of net neutrality. Among them, PA Rep. Bob Brady, who has received $91,650 in campaign contributions from Comcast since 2007. Now, it’s not hard to see what this is: Comcast is calling in favors to help its cause and Brady owes, so… here’s Bob Brady, towing the Comcast line. But there’s a larger issue in play here. Though some have made great advances in recent years, politicians as a species still have a hard time with the Internet. They don’t like it, they don’t always understand it, and more than anything, they have a hard time coming to grips with its transparent culture. And Brady — an old school press-the-flesh (and not the mouse) pol if ever there was one — is a study in this. And seeing as how the Internet was not particularly kind to Brady when he last ran for Mayor, you can probably understand his support of Comcast’s anti-neutrality stance as being more in the service of Brady being sick of people (us) talking shit about him on the Internet than it is any real understanding of the issues at hand.
