We’ve mentioned this before, and we are not afraid to say it: GIRLS are the best new band we’ve heard in months. They first came to our attention over the summer with the video for “Hellhole Ratrace”, and since we got an advance of their debut full-length, Album, suffice it to say that this one has been in heavy rotation and it shows no signs of letting up anytime soon. Why? Without jumping the gun here, there’s something about the melancholy sexuality and Velvets-y stylings that go on with Girls that make them maybe the closest thing to an American version of the Smiths we’ve seen in forever. (And oh how we have been searching, since 1986, for the American Smiths. It also probably doesn’t hurt that there’s an X-rated version of the video you see above out there, AND NO, THAT LINK IS ABSOLUTELY NOT WORK SAFE SO BE CAREFUL, SNOOP JOBBY JOB.)
