This Weekend: Hey Man, Is That Freedom Rock?
FRIDAY:
>>> Hey everybody! Let’s pretend that NO NEW MUSIC HAS BEEN MADE SINCE 1985! First, you’re gonna go see that band The Beatles in their hot new film, Let It Be, which we told you about earlier this week. From there, you’ve got a bevy of choices: Get The Led Out, who are quite literally (and we so mean this) THE FUCKING GREATEST LED ZEPPELIN COVER BAND YOU WILL EVER SEE, at the Electric Factory; The Australian Pink Floyd Show, who are no slouches either, at the Tower Theater; or, just go for the real thing and see the REAL Hall & Oates, The Hooters and Todd Rundgren at the Spectrum, which should be brought to you by Top Rolling Papers but somehow, is not; and then wrap it all up with Turnaround Vs. Immediate at The Barbary, where special guest DJ Spank Rock will be the only evidence within miles that this is not 1975.
SATURDAY:
>>> Phew! Bring on the new! Making Time presents Aeroplane, Jokers of the Scene and Wallpaper with Dave P, also at the Barbary, saving you the headache of going CMJ up in NYC and coming back, wondering why the hell you did that in the first place.
>>> Meanwhile, Dr. Dog and Alec Ounsworth‘s Flashy Python play the TLA (the Dog is playing TLA on Friday, too) in what is sure to be a sold-out show, but don’t sweat it, you have connections. Hey, weren’t you in Dr. Dog at one point?
>>> South Philly! Care to Bloktoberfest with me? Port Richmond! Go see The Skydrops @ Green Rock Tavern and order the chicken cheesesteak! Errrbuddy else! Invite people over!
SUNDAY:
>>> Two shows of note to wind up this, The Weekend Before World Series Baseball Sweeps In And Rules Your Life: Mount Eerie at First Unitarian Church and Andrew Bird and St. Vincent at the Electric Factory.
