Someone Famous Went Somewhere Once: David Cross At McGlinchey’s

davidcrossfur72smPhilebrity received numerous tips last night that, after his show at the Merriam Theater, comedian David Cross stopped into venerable Philly dive McGlinchey’s for a drink or two. To which we responded: We’ve been to McGlinchey’s and seen the clientele — How can you even tell which one is David Cross? And then, the immediate question: Did he try the dirty water dogs? We may never know. By all accounts, though, Cross has recovered from how badly he bombed at the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Monticello, NY last month — too drunk! — and delivered a great set at the Merriam last night, even going so far to throw some love Philly’s way. To which someone must have responded to Mr. Cross after the show, “You know, David, you had a really great show tonight. Why don’t I take you somewhere special? Have you ever heard of this place called McGlinchey’s?”

Do you know of Someone Famous Who Went Somewhere Once in Philadelphia? We don’t care, but we’ll humor you. Send your tips and pics to tips[at]philebrity[dot]com.

Show was pretty good. I could have done without the skits though.

He asked for “one of those famous Philly beers” while onstage. I couldn’t tell what kind of beer they gave him.

@robot-I saw a blue label and was hoping for Newbold IPA, but it looked like a Bud Light to me.

Too bad he chose McGlinchey’s. Good Dog would have been a better choice. We hit it up before the show at overheard one of the best hipster-bartender interactions ever:

Hipster in a hoodie- You guys have the Citywide Special?
    Bartender- What’s the Citywide Special?
Hipster- It’s a, uh, Pabst and a shot of Jim Beam.
Bartender- I guess it’s not citywide.

  3. amy Says:

I can confirm, it definately was a Bud Light unfortunately.
I had to hold back from heckling him for that.

I agree about the skits. Esp. the ones with that younger guy. But overall pretty awesome. I would love to see that show he aired a bit of picked up in the US.

    @schmoe

Sorry, but the Good Dog bartender was the lame-o for not knowing what the citywide special is. Just out of curiousity, what this on the 1st or 2nd floor? Also, I’m not even sure what a hipster is anymore, but I’m pretty sure that they haven’t been big PBR fans in years.

first floor. the bartender was just funnin’ with the dude.
and by my account, a hipster is anyone who has enough of my same tastes to annoy me.

  6. portrich Says:

It’s called a “Philly Special” not a “Citywide Special.”

I was at the Good Dog drinking a delicious PBR tallboy and enjoying the burger, so they’re still fans (somewhat).

  7. ride1076 Says:

Sorry about that, I’m a little slow today.

  8. insectintellect Says:

    it’s the citywide at b&b’s.

I can confirm that he did not infact try our dirty water hot dogs. I was waitressing last night when he was in.
