Noontime Nuggetz: John Zacherley, “Dinner With Drac”

The more dig for Philly’s horror/novelty host legends, the more you readers find for us. Having already visited Stella and Dr. Shock this week, we just got hipped to Philly boy John Zacherle, who had a hit in 1958 with “Dinner With Drac.” (Think “Monster Mash” but with Dracula in there instead.) Above, he performs the tune on a local TV broadcast. Whoa.

    Yer welcome. Even Dr. Schock admitted he modeled his character on Zacherle’s Roland, with his permission. My mom turned me on, when I used to spin “Dinner with Drac” when I was a kid and she told me about watching him growing up. Great tribute to Zach and interview here from doc “American Scary”:
