Dave Eggers Starts A Newspaper Curiously Like The Old Philadelphia Independent, Which Used To Be A Newspaper Curiously Like McSweeney’s

It’s true: The McSweeney’s gang is starting up a broadsheet in Sam Clam’s Disco. And when we read about it, all we could think was: Damn, this totally sounds like the late, great Philadelphia Independent (pictured). Which is funny, because back when the Phindie was around, people would always rag on it for its shared old-timey tendencies with McSweeney’s. But truth be told, we miss the Phindie like hell. So much so that we’ve often thought about doing our own weekly two-sided broadsheet. (You could read it while you were in line at Sabrina’s!) Now, granted, this might not be the best time to start up a newspaper, but come to think of it, does anybody know a good local printer who can do broadsheet size cheap? We’d consider it if you would. And in case you were wondering, yes: We will use any excuse whatsoever to occasionally remind you all of the Independent.
