Just so you know: An 8-car passenger train traveling 79 miles per hour takes 6000 ft. (or 1 1/8 miles) to stop. (I looked it up!) N.E. Corridor trains between NY and DC typically run 80-100 mph, and frequently get up to 110-120 on straightaways, so obviously they take much longer to stop.

Philebs: I whine because I do really love you guys. But, damn, relying on some “tweet” for real info and not doing even the littlest thing like checking Septa.com is just crap “journalism.” Or, at least learn the lay of the land you live in (beyond Fishtown and National Mechanics)so when you “Acela” and “Glenside” are in the same sentence, you know something is wrong.

Btw: the Amtrak was still running like a rocket while all this was happening. It kind of makes me sick to think that they had no control over the train to stop it while this was all going on.

I was on the 4:10 R3 train, and it was awful. We could see police and helicopters surrounding the place where the body was. There was a sheet covering the body on the tracks, and the accident that took place was at Folcroft station. They sent the R3 in place of the R2. It was awful. All of the stations were packed. My boyfriend is in Wilmington right now and they are all still waiting for the train going North towards Center City… he’s been there since 5pm today and it is now 7pm and supposedly a train is on its way from Newark, DE (finally). What a terrible accident. I have seen kids cutting across these tracks so often, it’s such a sin that this happened.
