Couples Retreat is the newest big budget Hollywood romcom about Hilarious Married Couples Who Fight A Lot, But It’s Funny! and eventually all’s well that ends well, etc. and everyone goes home pretty happy. Normally, we are not so keen on such things, but this movie actually looks pretty good. For one thing, its written by and starring Vince Vaughn and John Favreau … Swingers, anyone? (Also: those two were both in Rudy … you learn something new every day! But I digress.) We also think Jason Bateman is hilarious and really deserves a half-decent script (Extract … really??) which this movie looks to provide. Still skeptical? The music for the film is by Academy Award Winner A.R. Rahman and it’s also directed by Peter Billingsley, another frequent Vaughn collaborator and also, coincidentally, Ralphie from A Christmas Story(!!!!). So yeah, it might be a little cheesy, but we still think it’s worth a shot, and for that reason we’re going to let you see it for free, tomorrow night in Center City.
