Smile, Philly, You’re Number One In Big-City Bicycle Commuting!
No, really: Philly beat out every other big town in the U.S. — suck it, San Jose! — in the US Census Bureau’s 2008 American Community Survey concerning bike commuting, which has doubled here in the last three years. 1.6% of us here in Philly bike to work on the regular; the rest of us, as you probably know, slowly ooze there on a tide of cholesterol and rage.

Very nice, but the big news this week is the green-lighting of the massive $1.6 billion rainwater collection project here in Philly–the largest federally funded green project in the United States:

@almostphamous: They passed us two years ago. It comes down to the ability to annex the suburbs into your municipal boundaries – most southern and western cities have it, we don’t.
