Please don’t bring that saying back. It died a justifiably quiet death at the end of last season. Please.

Phillies-brand swag sales and tin homilies about civic pride aside, is a championship really an economic benefit to the city? Events over the last year suggests it’s ineffectual at best.

Here’s hoping they lose. I doubt that Philly’s small merchants can afford another mob of destructive, stupid man-boys this year.

LW: I think it’s the opposite, the economic impact of a WFC ($20m direct, plus an estimated $21m in TV exposure) dwarfs a small amount of destruction by some stupid man-boys. See below.

Also, not to mention the impact of having another season of the ballpark being close to sold out for 81 home games. And that’s a lot of suburbanites who wouldn’t otherwise be venturing into the City.

I was on South Broad with my dad, my sister, and my friends when the Phils won the World Series, and again for the parade. They were probably two of the best memories of my life. I am glad that if it happens again in 2009, Lord Whimsy will be too far away to piss in the champagne.

Dearest whimsy: If you’re not a baseball fan, fine. However, no one is pissing on your horticultural inclinations. You apparently have a cultural bone to pick with some of the attendant unpleasantries that may surround this fine sport, but that can be expected with any example of human endeavor and all its glorious imperfections. Respect is a two way street, my brother, and mobs are mobs, don’t blame the Phillies. Kindly take your tin homilies and shove them up your chrysanthemum. “Here’s hoping they lose?” Sincerely, and most emphatically, eff you.
