And Now, Your Darren Finizio Update

It’s been a coupla weeks since we last checked in with outsider artist/gender agitator Darren Finizio, who, for us, at least, represents so much of what is weird and wonderful about the City of Philadelphia. First up, a reader forwarded us the separated-at-birth mockup you see above, which makes a good case that perhaps, possibly, Philadelphia film industry advocate Sharon Pinkenson could indeed be Darren’s freak twin. And… there’s more!
Meanwhile, we have been going back and forth with Darren regarding our challenge back in August to allow Philebrity to present what we’d call “An Evening With Darren Finizio,” and exactly what form that would take. Thus far, Darren has been, in general, receptive to the idea, though an exact date and venue and which Darren projects would appear is still a matter of some debate. But the lines of communication are open, and we’ll definitely hammer something out soon.
And finally, Darren was kind enough to send us a new song, called “Identify/Delete,” which he describes this way:
When we were infants we were forced to do tricks and rewarded when we performed them properly (like dogs), when some basic nurturing and a sense of belonging was all we really needed. Education is an intellectualized extension of this: duplication without reason. Those who’ve recently ‘come of age’ have been weened on social networking sites where thumbs/stars/virtual drinks etc. signify ones supposed worth, assuring they’ll be slaves to conformity. It’s no surprise that nonconformists, now more than ever, would be duly (or inadvertantly) shunned by those seeking affirmation…..or, as is the case with ‘artists’, relevance.
And that is the Darren Finizio news for September 30, 2009. More soon.

Excellent observation. Darren could totally subvert the Eddie Money angle.
