Musical Rumblings: Cupcake Roller-Disco Edition

edie and andy>>> Flufftronix (Subdivision/Smooth Sailing at the Barbary) and Melissa Lena (ex Upstairs at Sals/90s Party at the Khyber) are DJ-ing the first Boogie Nights Roller Disco Party this Friday night at the St. Charles Roller Rink at 20th and Christian. There will be vegan chocolate cupcakes, sweet jams and running video clips of cheesy vintage classic Skatetown, USA. [Facebook]

>>> Local dudes Drink Up Buttercup have officially signed to Yep Roc Records and will be putting out a full length in 2010 with a fancy pedigree. The album is being recorded by Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog/Man Man) and mixed by Rusty Santos who played a large role in Panda Bear‘s Person Pitch. An exclusive track is currently available on the Yep Roc Website and the band will be playing Space 1026 on September 22nd. We foresee big things for these guys. [YepRoc]

>>> Lastly, this weekend, Dean & Britta (formerly of Luna) are performing as part of the Live Arts Festival, playing with their band while 13 of Andy Warhol‘s famous Screen Tests are projected overhead. Take it from someone who has done extensive research on Andy Warhol and sat through hours worth of his films – they can be mind numbingly boring, which is sort of the point sometimes. The live music aspect of this performance, however, perfectly balances out the imagery, offering the viewer a new and interesting perspective on Warhol’s work. [Citypaper]

I haven’t seen the Dean & Britta/Warhol event in person, but a friend who saw it performed in NYC says it was sublime.
