Fairmount Park Sends Out Plan C Letters: Your Favorite Park Could Already Be Going To The Dogs

FP-Plan-C-Notification-0910

The above letter went out earlier this morning the various and sundry partners of the Fairmount Park System — community groups and such who mind neighborhood parks which fall under Fairmount Park’s umbrella (full list here) — and, well, it looks pretty dire. Then again, like all things Plan C, this is just a heads up for what would happen if the Doomsday Budget goes into effect, and we still don’t know that it will. (A vote in Harrisburg preventing all of this could happen as soon as today, but then again, don’t hold your breath.) But what of these parks if Plan C does in fact become a reality? We urge you all to act locally. For us, for instance, that would mean volunteering or donating towards the upkeep of Penn Treaty Park, a park that gave us so much simple joy this summer, it’s hard to even quantify in numbers. So again, check that list, and if your local park or rec center is unfortunate enough to fall under this umbrella, and all of this means something to you, make yourself available. If you don’t, who will?

It should be noted that Fairmount Park is also in charge of all street trees. If one falls down on your block, you can expect it to stay there if the budget doesn’t pass.

This is scary. All you fellow runners/bikers, this includes the bathrooms at Lloyd Hall on Kelly Dr… Very much something people use.

i wish people wouldn’t be so quick to blame someone else every time something bad happens. with the way the economy has been it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. why not quit blaming and complaining and volunteer or something? if there’s no money right now for these services it’s up to us, the people who use them, to help out until things get better.

So now I can plant my own garden in the park and nobody will be around to tell me to stop. Everyone: plant gardens in the park! Woo-hoo!
