Phashionista: Burquini Kill
Oh church and state, when are you crazy kids going to learn to get along? More importantly – when will you stay out of our fashion? This week, a French Muslim woman was banned from her local pool because she was wearing a head-to-toe swimsuit called a “Burquini.” (That’s a portmanteau of Burqa and bikini). Officials say the bagginess of her suit was against pool hygiene standards (So that’s why French guys are always in Speedos). She says she’s the victim of religious discrimination. Ethical dilemma aside, we are more focused on the suit! Designed by Australian designer Ahead Zanetti, this hybrid really brings rocking a woman’s Hijab to the fore. Strictly in terms of fashion–not politics–conservative is the new black. If Beach Bombshell is back, then so is this. Zanetti, you really are ahead of your time. Church and state are never going to be friends, but church and fashion… we are sensing there may be some chemistry there. In the meantime, we’re keeping our eyes peeled to see if we spot this creation on this side of the Atlantic.

It’s almost a viable alternative to the gallons of greasy sunscreen required for a day at the beach.
