God Help This Cubs Fan If He’s Ever Spotted Within 90 Miles Of Philadelphia

SHANEBEER6

We do a lot of things in Philly. We boo Santa Claus. We kill each other in the parking lot. We say “wooder.” But we don’t — I repeat, DON’T — throw beers on Shane Victorino. Image via — and complete play-by-play — at The Fightins. On the plus side, we totally spanked the Cubs last night. Oh, and Chicago? Your pizza sucks, too.

    What was it, Northwestern’s Pre-Frosh Night At The Ballpark?

    Is that other guy wearing a blue bandana UNDER a hat WITH sunglasses on it?

    “Oh, and Chicago? Your pizza sucks, too”

    Them’s fightin’ words. I have honestly never had worse pizza than philly pizza.

  5. expat attack Says:

    @ philthydan

    Have some Tacconelli’s before you type something that stupid again.

  6. tips Says:

    @philthydan: Blogger please. Do you mean to deny the majesty of Tacconelli’s? The old world flavor of Marra’s? The lighthearted delight of Alex’s Pizza in Manayunk? The forward-thinking and delicious whole wheat crust at Home Slice? To paraphrase my man Kenny Powers: Honey, I love you, but you got [pizza knowledge] like a dickhead.

  7. schmoe Says:

    OF COURSE dude has chin pubes.
    of. fucking. course.

  8. philthydan Says:

    So someone reset my password, over pizza? Classy. 3 decent pizza joints in a city of 3 million does not make philly pizza any good. I have had tacconelli’s, it’s ok. I have also had pizza had golden crust in manayunk (barf) and a million other shit show pizza holes in this city. Anyone can make an italian grilled cheese slice. I can send you 50 chicago pizza joints off the top og my head thay blow just about any generic ass pizza in philly right out the water.

  9. schmoe Says:

    don’t want to start a flame war, but we’re a city of 1.5 million, dan.

    The guy is a dick, yeah, but don’t play into the fucking Santa shit or the recent tragedy at CBP.

    @ride1076

    Find me a job and we’ll talk!

    @philthydan

    Chicago deep dish pizza isn’t even pizza. It’s technically a casserole made with the same ingredients, more or less, as pizza. It can be tasty, but it’s not pizza. Sorry :)

  14. Patricio Says:

    LOL @dan. Someone is a little sensitive about that 3 inches of nasty tomato paste called a pie in Chicago. A friend of mine who moved out there a number of years ago for school told me she would rather eat chain restaurant pizza then have another Chicago pie. The girl was used to Rochester pizza for crying out loud too! Rochester pizza by the the way is some of the doughiest crap you’ve ever had/not had.

  15. ride1076 Says:

    Am I the only one who would jump for joy if Grotto’s opened a location in Philly?

  16. philthydan Says:

    Anyone from chicago knows that chicago style pizza is all about the thin crust. You can’t even get deep at %99.9 of all pizza joints in chi-town. Unos and malnotti’s ARE chain restaurants that serve crap-ass deep dish pizza and have the rest of the world convinced that that is what chicago pizza is all about. Seriously, hit me up before you take your next trip to chicago. I’ll tell you where to go.

    Your friend may be sick of “chicago Pie” but no self respecting chi-town native would ever call a pizza a pie.

  17. Hovering Says:

    @philthydan: Just shut the fuck up, please. Thank you.

    Everyone else: You have to figure it will be spun nationally as a Cubs fan acting like a Phillies fan. It’s too easy for them. Guaranteed to be mentioned on the Monday Night Football opener.

    At least the Chicago papers are doing the right thing. From the Trib: “It’s hard to say who embarrassed themselves more Wednesday night at Wrigley Field — the Cubs or one of the left-field bleacher bums” … “The Cubs want to prosecute the person to the fullest extent of the law. … Cubs general manager Jim Hendry called the Phillies’ clubhouse during the game to apologize, and manager Lou Piniella offered an apology as well.” http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-13-cubs-phillies-chicago-aug13,0,6020424.story

    The Chi. Sun-Times, too, wants this guy hauled in to account: (http://www.suntimes.com/sports/1715030,cubs-beer-throwing-13.article)

    Not too mention the pizza at Osteria. Recently ranked one of the top 25 pizzas in the country by Alan Richman @ GQ.

    @ride1076

    Shhhh! What happens in DE stays in DE.

  20. ride1076 Says:

    Dock Street in West Philly – often crappy service, but fantastic pizza.

  21. ride1076 Says:

    @expat: Look homey, you’re the one who’s always tryna get peeps down to our beaches.

  22. expat attack Says:

    @ride1076

    True, but I’m not telling them where to make the lines longer. They can sort that out for themselves.

  23. yaymanda Says:

    there is so much douchebag-ery going on in this sea of khaki cargo shorts who even knows where to begin. the most important thing to note is the score… and the second most important thing to note is the guy who did it has his back to the field. he must be one tough guy – pour a beer on a player from the stands and then turn away and laugh to all your friends.

    p.s. the next pictures we see of this kid on the internet would probably be him passed out on a bathroom floor with a penis drawn on his face during rush week.

  24. cb Says:

    @ride1076 and @expat attack: I love me some Tacconelli’s but no pizza rival Grotto’s in my heart of hearts.

  25. philthydan Says:

    @ hovering

    awwwe. don’t cry.

  26. philatrash Says:

    it’s Pizza Wars up in here.

    Having grown up in Chicagoland, deep dish pizza carries an air of nostalgia for me. There are local joints other than Lou’s & Geno’s East that serve amazing deep dish – go to the Art of Pizza and you’ll know what I mean.

    On the whole, though, you just can’t compare the East Coast stuff to the Chicago stuff. Deep dish is a pizza PIE in every sense of the word. Brooklyn and good Philly pizza is emphasizes flavor and quality ingredients. I like them both?

  27. timeandmoney Says:

    @ Chicago: wrath. first Kanye West and now this.

    Chicago’s pizza and eats are delicious. I honestly think we are on the same amazing echelon. All the Philly spots mentioned are bumpin, but people often overlook what the burbs have to offer. Gaetano’s in Clifton Heights is that grade A crack quality make em say HANH pizza. It reigns supreme in my book.

    Oh and whoevs tossed in their spin on the Kenny Powers quote might be my favorite person ever.

  28. IgorS Says:

    @timeandmoney

    Agreed, the ‘burbs have some good offerings, personally I’m a fan of Felicia’s in Ardmore, but I know some people can’t stand it.
