Breaking: Eagles Sign Michael Vick

And you all acted like we were so crazy for even suggesting it. Now, lo and behold. Newsflash: Football is fucking moronic and base. Sorry. Can we all start getting psyched for the Philadelphia Union already? Really, it’s the world’s sport. Let’s be a part of the world.

Ron Mexico’s contract specifically states that he is going to pick up all the smeared dog poop from 22nd street, and as a bonus, he’ll get all the chicken bones, too, to avoid further dog injuries.
August 13th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Fuck the Eagles, seriously.
P-H-I-L-L-I-E-S!
August 13th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
You didn’t suggest it. The bleacher report suggested it. Regardless, this is the equivalent of saying that all cinema is moronic because Woody Allen or Roman Polanski are child molesters. Or all pop music is moronic because of Michael Jackson or Gary Glitter. Honestly, this is the best place for Michael Vick. Not the football player, but the person. I would never attempt to minimize what he did, but the man needs to move on with his life. I suggest you do the same.

Americans care more about their dogs’ healthcare than their own. It is the dumb, fat Americans and their hypocrisy that’s disgusting.
That’s it.
Out.

Anyone wanna borrow my Eagles T’s for the next 2 years?
August 13th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Let us recall that it wasn’t just silly ‘ole dog fighting that Vick got put in jail for. It was the hanging, drowning & electrocuting.
Seriously, can someone really be rehabilitated for being cruel? Isn’t that something that is ingrained in the soul?
The fact that Andy Reid is so verbally forgiving of Vick’s actions is just another priceless piece of Philly History.

To Fly2pluto:
Are you a Bryn Mawr mom? I mean, “something that is ingrained in the soul”?
What about the NFL superstars, past and present, who are rapists? You know, people who harm actual humans — mentally for the rest of their lives, as well as physically? Where were you for them? A suggestion, which is unisex: Don’t be a douche bag.
Again, dogs v. humans — humans will take the dogs every time. Dogs cannot tell them they’re wrong. In 2004, dogs could not say, “Please don’t vote for George W. Bush! He’s even more retarded than you!”
Know why? They are dogs. A step or two from hyenas. Maybe that’s Buffy talking. Whatever. I have my weaknesses.
As far as I can tell from the many dogs I’ve known, they are all smoking, drinking and laughing their misanthropomized and well exposed asses off at you fools.
If you think dogs are worthy of your intellect, I’ll say
1. Palin 2012!
2. Your dog may love you, but would love you more if you threw up more often, and let him clean up, and
3. Dogs are really, really, enthusiastic about assholes.
That said, I love dogs! Got one! Not gonna kill her! Not gonna hang her or gut her or “fight” her. Promise!
Also, a bonus: I’m not black!
You can now go safely back to reading all you can about what your Congressperson and Senator think about the future of health care for humans in the United States.
And fuck you — I am so NOT a snob. I’m your best friend. It’s two weeks until Labor Day.
Read a book.
What was that?
I said, READ A BOOK.

I don’t know what this has to do with politics (it doesn’t have anything to do with politics). Is cruelty ingrained in the soul? Well, that’s not a very clinical approach. I don’t know the answer to that. I’m not a theologian, but I know that most religions embrace this idea of forgiveness and I think it’s an underrated idea. Socially, I don’t believe that you have this part of the population, (the rehabilitated/ex-cons) who you label, disparage and sequester.
You have to remember that Vick isn’t coming here carrying the flag for dog-fighting. He’s not here to justify what he did. Wayne Pacelle, CEO of the Humane Society, has stated that Vick “…clearly expressed remorse and contrition.” That doesn’t mean anything though. Vick still has a lot to prove. The Eagles decided to give him a chance.

Football is moronic and base? Really, Joey? Some of us get off on bland and base indie rock, some of us get off on a dynamic and strategic sport. Have some respect for your city’s other passions–ones like the Eagles that unite the city and don’t have a baseless elitist attitude (although do sometimes have thug fans).
August 14th, 2009 at 9:23 am
The logic that informs the ‘well a lot of football players have done worse things!’ is flawed and just dumb. This has little if anything to do with football or a person’s right to work after committing a violent act. Just because Vick paid a ‘debt’ and is eligible to rejoin the workforce doesn’t mean that we should accept him or appreciate him in Philadelphia.
He hung, electrocuted and beat animals. In a city that is already struggling with a dog fighting problem, this is just a poorly informed signing for a guy that may or may not even see any legitimate game time for the first year of his two-year deal.

I admit I was wrong.
August 14th, 2009 at 9:39 am
Until Pete Rose is in the Baseball Hall of Fame, I think it’s totally fair to hold people’s “mistakes” against them for the rest of their career/lives.
August 14th, 2009 at 11:19 am
I wonder how mrs. vick will fit in with the rest of the philly sports wives
August 14th, 2009 at 11:32 am
@emmkay I was thinking the same thing last night about Rose. I totally agree.
August 14th, 2009 at 11:37 am
You have to admit, football is gay:

I think he’s disgusting, and this is all really bad PR for Philly, so I get the outrage. BUT, Brett Myers publicly beat his wife, and yet you cheered him on during the World Series.
I don’t care for football myself, but this really has nothing to do with the sport.

“Hide your Beagle, Vick’s an Eagle.”
August 14th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
No one will care in a month’s time.
August 14th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
“Watch your pit bull, Vick’s an E-gul.”
Doesn’t rhyme quite as well.
August 14th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
The Phillies’ championship brought the city together. Signing Vick will only divide the city. The fact that some assholes will defend someone’s actions like Vick, only proves their lack of intelligence and compassion. There are plenty of players who don’t commit heinous acts of repeated violence, that could have been signed.
August 14th, 2009 at 12:07 pm
The Eagles are now dead to me.
August 14th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
“outta the clink and into the Linc”
August 14th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Barry, you have got to know this about me by now: I will go to the mat for elitism every time. Elitism is a good thing. Elitism lets you know where you stand. Am I an elitist? Damn right, and proud of it.
August 14th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Should be fun. Lots of cool trick plays. I think they will use him mostly to run the ball and occasionally do a trick pass. Should be great to watch.
August 14th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
“Michael Vick is an Eagle, hide your Beagle”
August 14th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
It might have been better if he went to the Browns, ironically speaking of course.
August 14th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Can I an amen for mcknappers’s question above regarding the hypocrisy of some of the complainers who are big Phillies fans? I don’t think you want me to ask: is punching your wife more okay than murdering dogs?
There have been plenty of professional sports players that have really effed up, and guess what, some of them have played for our beloved Philly teams. You don’t have to like every player or hey, even the coach, but don’t make your fairweather fan status so GD obvious. Anyone bothering to “protest” this decision is an idiot–believe me, there are more important things in the world to get enraged about.
August 14th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
The charges against Bret Myers were dropped, at the request of his wife. They continue to live together. You can’t say the same things about Vick the dogs.
August 14th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
I meant “Vick and the dogs.”
August 15th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
@Timo: So? Who cares that the charges were dropped? All that means is that he didn’t even get punished for punching his wife in the face! Vick at least went to prison, though I tend to agree with people who think he should have done more time.
