Spikol Out At PW: Long Live Spikol

spikolherselfPhilebrity has learned that longtime Philadelphia Weekly columnist and editor Liz Spikol (pictured) has just left the paper, after God only knows how many years. We’re still waiting on a call back from the lovely lady, who will inevitably tell us what we already know: Nothing gold can stay. Spikol’s departure comes on the heels of what has been a particularly cruel epoch in the PW storyline — just weeks ago, PW issued layoffs and furloughs to an undisclosed number of employees, as the paper, like many alt-weeklies around the country, continues to shrink in both page counts and cultural relevance. Spikol, however, pretty much owns a mental health beat — though there’s no mention of a farewell or what’s next on her PW blog — so we suspect she’ll be popping up somewhere online sooner than later. (Furious Seasons confirms this.) In the meantime, let’s doff our cap to Spikol for hanging in there for so very long. Elizabeth, you are stronger than we are. Godspeed, and don’t be a stranger, hon.
