Musical Rumblings: Scentless Apprentices
>>> Hey Philly music scene, when the chips are down and Agnew’s not calling you back and Heyday is bitching about your violation of the 30-day-no-local-play rule, you know who’s got your back? Philly Boy Roy. Roy showed up at the big Merge Records fest in North Carolina over the weekend, and, well…
Mac McCaughan came out on stage before the fifth band instead of the night’s emcee and announced that there was a lone protester outside. He invited him up on stage and it was Jon Wurster decked out in Phillies gear as Philly Boy Roy. He was holding a sign that said “Boycot MERGE.” He complained that Merge didn’t have any Philly bands on their roster and Mac said that they have bands from Jersey, which is close to Philly. You never compare Jersey to Philly in front of Philly Boy Roy.
No you don’t. And hey, why isn’t there a single Philly band on Merge? [TriangleMusic]
>>> If your answer was “because we all have calendars and we gave up that 90s shit forever ago,” then that still leaves the new Philly-area Nirvana tribute band Stupid And Contagious (pictured) as very viable contenders. Featuring members of Wastoid and Shawn Kilroy, the group makes their debut on August 7th at the M Room.
>>> And finally, unrelated to all of this college boy music, the new Let Me Ride mix is up. [LetMeRide215]
