And Now, The Least Classy Phillies Game Of The Year (So Far)

lugodotSaturday’s Cards vs. Phils game (we won 14-6) was quite a thing to behold and, thanks to J-Roll‘s grand slam and lots of other fireworks, one of the more exciting games we’ve taken in all year. But that routing of the Cards will be forever marred by two things: Some asshole with a laser pointer, and worse still, a bunch of assholes from Fishtown (of course) beating some poor guy to death in the parking lot over a spilled beer at McFadden’s. W. T. F. You know, it’s all well and good for us to pride ourselves on being America’s Toughest Sports Fans, but this? This is something else: It’s being America’s Shittiest People Alive. We hope you’re proud, Laser Pointer Guy and Dude Who Will Spend The Rest Of His Life In Jail Over Something That Happened In McFadden’s. Nice work.

This. (Am I allowed to do the “this” thing? Haven’t quite worked that out, yet.)

  2. Brendangling Says:

I’m somewhat of a simpleton who likes to relate situations to one of two things: either a Simpsons episode/quotation or a Christy Moore song rendering. In the case of the latter, he covered a Mick Curry song, “Lawless”. The first two verses seem to apply to the a-holes who would engage in such violent behavior at what is supposed to be a fun event.

“He was Lawless by name and lawless by nature, trouble right from the start.
Hard as nails running wild through the streets he was breaking his poor mother’s heart.
Nature played a trick on Lawless and the humour of nature is cruel.
He grew up as we all had expected into a dangerous fool

He was a hard man a man for all seasons, always out for a fight.
He couldn’t hold drink but still he’d get plastered in Clarke’s every Saturday night
He’d strip of his vest, challenge the best ’til the guards were called to come fast
They’d lock him away for the rest of the day, leave him out Sunday morning for mass.”

    Well said, Philebs.

Lock these animals up and throw away the key.

  5. ggliwa Says:

WTF is with the ohh so clever “of course” you slid in after the word Fishtown. It is most certainly a sin and I can’t even imagine what these people are going through right now but how is it such a layup that Fishtowners were involved. In fact how do you know it was not one of the skinny jean hispters from god knows where who now live in Fishtown who took it too far.

  6. tips Says:

@ggliwa: It wasn’t anything sneaky. It was my honest, gut reaction. OF COURSE it was shitbags on a booze bus from Fishtown. OF COURSE it was. OF FUCKING COURSE.

  7. ggliwa Says:

Amazing how you love to bash the very neighborhood that you set up your entire operation in. If you truly believe Fishtowners are animals, if you truly believe that we are trash, that this neighborhood is a lesser class than the oh so classy hoods of Pennsport, Packer Park, Mayfair, Frankford, Devil’s Pocket etc why did you go to the trouble of setting up shop in such an undesirable location. Pack up your snarky t-shirts and your dirty vans and beat it. I am pretty sure you can blog from anywhere.

  8. tips Says:

@ggliwa: I’m a native (4th generation), so you can put your credentials away. I live and work here because my family and friends are here. Some of us are natives, some of us are newbs. And we love very much of what we’ve got here: community, convenience, and so on. But as anyone, new or old, lives in Fishtown, we know what we’re up against. We’re up against oxyzombies. We’re up against racists and goons. We’re up against disgusting fucking shoot-the-messenger apologists like you. And the more light we cast on you and your sick lot, the more the neighborhood finally and definitively becomes ours. There’s no crime in acknowledging any of this. And if you don’t mind, I’m going to politely refuse your offer to take over my lease(s). Now go fuck yourself.

    @ggliwa

‘member the good old days in Fishtown? I wonder if the perps yesterday were related to these old heads?

  11. ggliwa Says:

Never condemned you for pointing out incidents or for bringing to light the plight of the neighborhood but rather the revelry you take in announcing it. The fact that you so enjoy perpetuating the stereotypes of the neighborhood.
And I never mentioned credentials, you were the one who was obviously itching to use that card, but why would someone who was born and raised in such a community use his reach to disparge it.
Now I guess I will go Fuck myself. God knows I wouldn’t want to upset a 4th generation Fishtowner, I hear they are a rough violent type who do nothing but eat painkillers all day.

  12. tips Says:

@ggliwa: I don’t enjoy pointing this shit out. But the fact is, it’s EVERYWHERE. And the fact of us pointing it out — while we continue to support good parts of Fishtown (be it local businesses, events like Waterfront Wednesdays) — also shows that, of course, this is not all there is to Fishtown/New Kensington, etc. And goddamn if it doesn’t feel like the trashiest elements of the Fishtown old guard are hell-bent on reversing everything good about the ‘hood, whether it’s new OR old. To which I say: Fuck these people. Fuck them in their stupid faces. They will not win. They will have to go to New Jersey, or Juniata. Or some other such hell on earth. They will not win.

  13. jburnside Says:

When I read about this in this mornings paper my first reaction was ” out of control drunken hipsters” Upon re-reading the article, I realized that the deceased was beaten with fists and kicked to death. That immediately cleared the hipster community. If they were involved, the victim would have been beaten to death by limp dicks

  14. expat attack Says:

Fishtown, where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average.

  15. ggliwa Says:

I agree with you. I enjoy seeing the neighborhood flourish, seeing one of the nicest parks in the city finally utilized for something other than the sleeping vagrants, to see cafes spring up, seeing old abandon buildings turned into legit housing.
Its just that I am under the thought that you don’t have to down people to acknowledge others.
I am surprised that as opposed to engaging in a string about it you went ahead and outed me by doing a search on me and then posting it. Not necessary but not all that much of a bother either as if I was worried about your perception of me I would have changed my user name.

  16. tips Says:

@ggliwa: Don’t get it twisted: It’s not like we (or any other media in the city) are “outing” Fishtown mouth-breathers. Everyone knows they’re there; that in and of itself is not news. But when they MAKE news — be it via murder, racial intimidation, or other acts of incredible stupidity — that’s just as worthy of comment as any bona fide good news (which we also go out of our way to post on). So if you could, spare me the “you don’t have to down people to acknowledge others” argument. This is not a service blog. There’s good news and bad news here. As for outing you, it came more from a sense of “who the fuck is this person” than any desire I had to not engage in a back-and-forth here. Because I just did that, too.

  17. ggliwa Says:

“As for outing you, it came more from a sense of “who the fuck is this person” than any desire I had to not engage in a back-and-forth here”

And after finding out who I was you posted it for all to see. That would be the unnessary part I spoke of.

    I’m bored now.

Ha. Yeah, it’s those skinny-jeans-wearing hipsters again! Always taking over McFadden’s, and uhh… beating people to death.

  22. Patricio Says:

I really have no time to read these comments so I don’t want to get into anything about being redundant or any over use of run-on sentences but let me yell this out…THIS SHIT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE! Are the people of Tampa and LA the shittiest in America for using laser pointers this season? Fuck getting into previous seasons because New York and San Diego fans have got into the action as well.

What about Analheim err Anaheim? A story that makes this last weekend seem way less shitty.

Oh and I also forgot supporters of the LA Dodgers who go and shoot fans of opposing teams in the parking lot!

Can’t forget those ultrashitty people of Chicago who made an 20th anniversary party for this testosterone filled occasion 2 weeks ago.

Joey, seriously, shit like this perpetuates through the typical thin-skinned Philadelpian and makes you think bad stuff only happens here. Its about time some fucking journalists just lay off this shit and stop feeding others with raw meat about our city. It does NOTHING for this town.

  23. Patricio Says:

Just had to time to read these posts and boy was I wrong on how this discussion would go.

  24. philabiker19 Says:

Haha I know who the guy who delayed the game. My neighbor was over drinking with my brother and then screamed my brother is the fuck who brought that to the game. Green lazer he bought in greece.

  25. steveeboy Says:

yeah, you can see from the latest @philly.com that these perps were skinny jeans-wearing hipsters!!!

They rode up on their fixed gears and HAMMERED those suburban boys!

“According to court records, about 1:30 a.m. on July 22, 2006, Kirchner, who lives across the street from Moe’s, pounded Cody White, a Delaware man who Kirchner had thought was urinating against his home.

Kirchner and three or four others then kicked and beat White, knocking him to the ground. White told police that the beating stopped and he started walking away, but Kirchner ran up and hit him until he became unconscious. White woke up in a hospital with a broken right cheekbone and a half-dozen stitches to close his left eye.

According to Philadelphia court records, Kirchner is serving a four-year probationary sentence after pleading guilty to assault and reckless endangerment.

Bowers had a similar conviction stemming from a late-night party in September 1993 at a house in the 700 block of East Thompson Street, where a fight broke out involving about 30 people.

During the melee, Bowers, who then worked for an unnamed moving company, stabbed 19-year-old Joseph Mulvenna twice in an arm, once in the stomach, and once in a thigh with a butcher knife.

Mulvenna spent a week in the intensive-care unit before recovering.”

Just felt the need to add another LOLZ to the comment that those meatheads outside of McFadden’s may have been “skinny jean hipsters.” Give me a break, brah. We all knew exactly who these assholes were even before any of the details came out.
