Hysteria In The Suburbs: Levittown Wal-Mart Edition

1950sJudging by the people wandering around aimlessly, trying to keep from getting overwhelmed, one might assume that Wednesday’s events were associated with some sort of catastrophic natural disaster. Instead, they were the result of a new Walmart Supercenter opening in the Levittown Town Center. In the Bucks County Courier Times’ report from the scene, shopper Carolyn Weaver feared getting lost, though she vowed to return again on a less-crowded day. Likewise, shopper Sue Dorman said, “It was almost too much to take in.”

While we really enjoyed the overly-optimistic 1950’s jet age/housing boom treatment of the event (“Stand on one end of the store and you can just barely make out the far wall. Seven wide aisles are filled with plastic storage containers, six aisles with DVDs and five aisles of bath towels. The meat section stretches farther than a football field.” Gee gosh, that’s big!), we were disappointed when we realized that at 200,000 square feet, these shoppers were getting lost in a store that’s smaller than a typical Macy’s. Oh, life in the suburbs! So crazy! Just think how overwhelmed those country squires will feel when everyone has a personal jetpack!

This shit is depressing. Everyone knows Wal-Mart is evil (or they should know). Encouraging employees to apply for public assistance for medical coverage, littering the American landscape with empty stores that relocated to the next town over once tax abatements ended, child labor abroad, discriminating against women/minorities, sucking the life out of Main Street and destroying entire local economies.

Please, let’s keep Philebrity WAL-MART FREE!!

Really? Life in the suburbs is fake?

Really? And in Levittown of all laces? Get out!

And the Bucks County Courier Times is a dumb-ass all-but-dead paper? Really?

    No way. Come on.
