This Evening: Revenge Of The Boogaloo
>>> Time was, you could walk outside your $400-a-month (totally illegal and not zoned for residential use) apartment in Old City and go hear DJ Aaron Luis Levinson (pictured) spin a mind-blowing array of old Latin records at the Five Spot, like once or twice a week. Well, The Five Spot burned down, that apartment is now a Starbucks and Aaron hasn’t spun a Latin set in a club in nine years. UNTIL TONIGHT. Levinson makes a triumphant return to the decks at the downstairs lounge at Chifa (7th & Chestnut), where he’ll be spinning salsa, boogaloo and Latin jazz, for what we hope is gonna become a regular thing. Party starts at 10PM, admission is free.
>>> And of course, The Rag — 700’s all-girl, all-vinyl monthly in which you learn that A) Women apparently love the Electric Light Orchestra as much, if not more, than men do and B) Women are 100% better DJs than men, statistics be damned — is back tonight, and in the words of my man Jimmy, “I like this party. I like this hang. It’s a good hang.” He’s right. It is.
>>> And this just in: Sgt. Sass have a new video, and will be showing it tonight at the Mile High Club (third floor of Doc Watson’s), kicking off at 9PM with DJ Sassy Jeff, spinning house/allovertheplace/indie. The video is for the track “Faggot Snappin’,” and we’ve put it after the jump because there was a feeling that the video would change the complexion and atmosphere of the pool, I mean, the blog.

Can you indicate which events are appropriate for 40+ married persons as well as hipsters? Thanks!

It’s nice to see some philly music legends making a comeback on the music scene.
