In The Future, Even The Halfway Houses Will Look Like Ikea Showrooms
We’ve been staring at this rendering of the St. John the Evangelist House — announced yesterday, and to be built at 13th & Market Sts. — for an hour now, marveling at just how cool it looks and wondering why we can’t live there. Although, to be fair, this recession is young, so by some time in 2010, when the building is completed, we may fit into the “formerly homeless” requirements set by The Bethesda Project and Project HOME. The building is funded in part by Jon Bon Jovi, which is kind of funny because that means that Bon Jovi can now rib Richie Sambora about how he’s building a homeless shelter like two blocks from Sambora’s house. Anyway, this thing looks totally boss. And good on these groups for building something that not only does a good deed but also contributes somewhat to the architectural life of the city.

Ummm? 13th and Market? A block from the expanded Convention Center? This is a good use of that location? How does this jive with the Center City District’s plan for east Market redevelopment?

But Dad-dy, *I* want to live in a halfway house!

@aetchells
Here’s how it jives. There will be 79 less homeless people sleeping on the streets around the convention center/east Market because they will be getting help and shelter.

@aetchells: after you go bust at FoxWoods down the street, you can check right in!
