Commentroversy: Kick The Dust And You Can Come, Too

A recurring thought — I know you are not the CP or PW, but even one day’s notice would serve some of us well. (I know I’ll get lambasted for this due to weekend stuff that is trumpeted, but that’s not what I mean.)Unless that’s just not the point. Which brings me to a question I never thought to ask, but is weirdly relevant: I love your rejection of the hipster tag, but do you really want me — my wife and I are in in our 40s, and have jobs that demand close attention for about, oh, 75% of the day — to descend on your scene?
Regular Phileb commenter “Hovering” posited the above (and some more) in response to yesterday’s Evening Picks post, and we figured it’d be good to clarify some things for our new readers or anybody else who might care. Our “This Evening” posts each day are intended to give shows and events a bit of last-minute love where we see fit, and geared directly toward those who, like us, are overcome at 5PM by a crippling need for a stiff drink and the company of other humans and need to know where the action is right this very second; those looking to plan in advance should definitely consult our listings. That’s what they’re there for! That’s why we do them!
And yes, you are welcome. Both for the listings and to go anywhere in the world you want. We get this kind of thing all the time — the whole, “Oh Philebrity big-upped that event, I’m not cool enough.” Besides this being a distinct kind of passive-aggressive personality flaw we’d like to urge everyone to correct — i.e., passing judgement on a band/event/thing by saying one is “not cool enough,” thereby portraying the object in question and the scene that accompanies it as frivolous and vacuous — we’d also like to direct you to this earlier post, which addresses this matter in a somewhat different scope. In short, Hovering, it’s like this: If you’re down with us, we’re down with you. Actually, we’re down with you even if you’re not down with us. After the jump, a little video we made in Penn Treaty Park last Sunday that’s about this very thing.

…Since we’re on the topic about your listings, why didn’t you ever post about that art show I had back on May 22nd? I felt rejected and unhip. :(

You should rock white turtlenecks more often, Joey. They suit you well.
