PhillyBlog Is Down, Leaving Hundreds Of Neighborhood Busybodies Much As They Were In The 1990s: Complaining, Alone, Weird.

As of this writing, it would seem that citywide community messageboard PhillyBlog is horribly, inexplicably, awfully down. In lieu of this inconvenience, Philebrity recommends the following last-ditch measure so that we can all hold on to the last remaining hopes of civilization: Actually speaking with your neighbors. Or just moving it on over to PhiladelphiaSpeaks, where the rest of the wingnuts have gone.

Yeah, it’s been down on-and-off (mostly down) since June 25th or so. I know its been a while now.

    THANK GOD!

I always love the headlines for the postings such as “Did I hear gunshots???” of course the op of the said alarmist article finds out the next day their neighbor just took out the trash with such intensity that it sounded like shots to their ears.

    Awesome.

    Thank god its done.

    Eh…

Just because its gone doesn’t mean that the mindset is, let alone places for people to post it.

If you saw PhillyBlog as nothing more than people around Philly to complain, then that’s all it was. On the other hand, if you saw it as a way to get information about your own local community from people, it was pretty good.

I live in Mt. Airy, and… well, there’s not real pulse there, just a collection of people. Its the most diverse area in the city, and its hard to know whats going on there at all. PhillyBlog actually helped to learn what was on the mind of the people in the area, and it was pretty nice. Also, I don’t think I would have been able to learn as much as I did about the South Street gatherings and such if it wasn’t for it.

It wasn’t that bad, although it did have its problems and trolls and people who never learned basic net-etiquette.

Wow, how hard is it run the phpBB site.

Let’s just make the phillyblog homepage redirect to Philadelphia Speaks and call it day.

I would agree that sometimes it was mindblowingly curmudgeonly, but it was a good resource. I just moved into my neighborhood and I learned a lot from the messageboards.

I don’t get the disdain. It seems there were real resources there for people newer to the city. Some people were “actually” speaking to neighbors.
