Recession-Based Facts Cause Real Philadelphians Totally Unfettered Glee
You know, for some of us, this whole recession thing is really, really working out: We’re reading more, we’re riding our bikes more, we’re getting familiar with all the stuff the city affords a broke person (like parks, people-watching and so on), and we’re just generally becoming more like actual people than we were when things like upward mobility were an actual possibility. Lemons, meet lemonade! Would you like me to refill your glass? According to new census information, the recession has even stopped white flight!
“The ability to afford a home in the suburbs, or at least get a loan for a home in the suburbs has been pretty much diminished. So a lot of people are staying put in the city and are finding that the city is a pretty good place to live.”
That’s right! Suck it, you bougie fucks! Only 1,200 of you were able to get outta dodge last year, because THE DREAM IS OVER. Philadelphia, get to know us. We promise you’ll like it, once you adjust your crappy worldview. It’s not like you have a choice.

“Philadelphia, get to know us.”
“Once you get to know us, you’ll never want to say ‘good-bye’!”
Ah, what a great 1980s Philly tourism ad campaign! There was nothing like seeing that commercial in between Evening Magazine segments.

Here’s a better slogan “Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here”. Put it on a sign over Market Street at 2nd where it crosses over Delaware Ave.

What a dumb story by kyw. Depending on neighborhood, people can access the loans needed to acquire a home it has no difference over city or suburb. The report assumes its some choice over suburbs which its not. It has nothing to do with the kyw report thinking that residents what suburbia. While people leave large cities such as ours everyday its the number of people who move in which is the issue. Philadelphia is bringing in people at a number that is now off setting those who leave. Millions leave NYC every few years never to return again, only to be replaced by millions of others.
White flight is continuing in our cities and in many inner-ring suburbs across the country so an end of that will never happen.

I meant “want” suburbia, not “what” suburbia.
